In the past, a cavity filling was quite obvious. Fillings could be seen whenever someone would talk or laugh. Today, we have a subtler option for treating cavities. At Falls Pointe Dentistry, we use white fillings that match the shade of your natural tooth. What Is A Cavity Filling?

Cavities, also known as tooth decay, are literally holes in teeth that grow from bacteria buildup. Decay can occur because of poor dental hygiene or even just because of the shape of your teeth. For example, if you have a tooth that is hard to reach or teeth with deep pits, you may be more likely to develop cavities.

White fillings are made with resin composite that looks and feels like a natural tooth and can restore teeth with decay. A cavity filling can also prevent more serious dental issues, such as tooth loss, tooth infection, and oral pain.

What Are The Advantages Of White Fillings?

Choosing white fillings to treat your cavities is a great option for several reasons:
  • They appear natural. Your dental work won’t bring any attention from others, even if you have a filling on the front of a tooth.
  • Small and large cavities can be treated. Fillings can provide restoration for teeth that only have slight decay or those with more damage. If the damage is too extreme, we may recommend other restorative options.
  • Only a small amount of natural tooth needs to be removed for a filling. We like to keep as much of your original tooth in place as possible, so we only remove the portion of the tooth that has decayed.
  • They are safe for your mouth. There has been a lot of question about the safety of amalgam fillings, which is one reason we use composite fillings. There are no harmful substances used for these fillings.
